What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points shown as effective in the treatment of specific health problems. Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture is over 2,000 years old and is the most widely utilized healing system in the world. The intent of acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain and suffering.

How does it feel?

Most people who have had acupuncture would describe it as virtually painless or far less painful than plucking out a hair. Because the disposable needles are very thin, some patients report feeling nothing at all to a mild tingling sensation. All these sensations usually subside once the needles are removed.

Are the needles clean?

Acupuncturists use sterilized, individually packaged, disposable needles. Needles are not saved and reused for later treatments.

Is it safe?

Licensed Acupuncturists know the human anatomy well, and insert needles in a safe fashion. When performed by a properly trained and licensed practitioner, acupuncture is safe and effective, free from adverse side effects. Quite often, a sense of relaxation and well-being occurs during and after treatments. While undergoing therapy for one ailment, other problems may resolve concurrently.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends upon the duration, severity, and nature of your complaint. You may need only a single treatment for an acute condition. A series of five to fifteen treatments may be necessary for chronic problems.
